Howard County Government: Police Investigating Fatal Collision In Elkridge

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision in Elkridge overnight in which one person was killed.

At approximately 2 a.m., a 2021 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Route 1 at Blue Stream Drive when it struck the back of a tractor trailer. The driver and sole occupant of the Corolla, 32-year-old Matthew Diehl of Elkridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured. 

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Route 1 in the area of Blue Stream Drive was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours.
