Howard County Poet Laureate Featured at Vantage Point on April 29

Downtown Columbia retirement community showcases inaugural Poet Laureate Truth Thomas in Arts & Culture Collective reading and interview

Residences at Vantage Point hosts Howard County Poet Laureate Truth Thomas in the final program of the Arts & Culture Collective Spring series, “Tell Me A Story: Sharing Tales of Past and Present.” Thomas, a singer-songwriter, poet and photographer will read from his work and be interviewed by poet and teacher Tim Singleton on Tuesday, April 29, 7-8 p.m., in the Vantage Point auditorium. The event is free. Registration is required.

Howard County’s inaugural Poet Laureate is the founder of Cherry Castle Publishing and the creator of the “Skinny” poetry form. His collections include Party of Black, A Day of Presence, Bottle of Life, Speak Water and My TV is Not the Boss of Me. Singleton is an adjunct instructor at Howard Community College and co-chair of the Howard County Poetry and Literature Society (HoCoPoLitSo).

The Arts & Culture Collective was established by the Residences at Vantage Point in response to community members’ interest in hosting public activities that engage and educate as well as entertain.

Residences at Vantage Point was founded in 1990 and is a nonprofit serving people age 60 and above. Managed by Life Care Services, the community includes a variety of residential living arrangements from studio to two-bedroom deluxe apartments. It provides long-term health services available exclusively for residents should they need them.
