Rain Goes Away, Top Howard County Stories: Week Ahead

The deluge of rain we've received over the past week should let up this week and make for a sunny weekend.

Weather - After a week of rain, the National Weather Service predicts a couple partly sunny days on Monday and Tuesday with highs in the upper 60s. Then more rain, possibly beginning Wednesday night into Thursday. Things should clear up for the weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s on Saturday and Sunday.

County Meetings - The County Council will hold its quarterly meeting with the Howard County Board of Education on Wednesday starting at 8 a.m. at Ducketts Lane Elementary. Also, recreation and parks will hold a meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to discuss field lights at Kiwanis-Wallas Park in Ellicott City and Savage Field #3.

Halloween is Coming - Patch has a local Halloween event guide here. And, now is the time to get that pumpkin. We have a list of local pumpkin patches here.

What's Happening at Patch - This week I'm looking into how the county is implementing common core mathematics in its schools, I'll have a feature story on the Crunch Daddy as he ramps up business, and we'll be monitoring for breaking local and regional news.

What you may have missed - Last week, a citizen discovered a body in Lake Elkhorn in Columbia. The body was later identified as a 32-year-old man with no fixed address. Police are investigating how the man ended up in the lake. In Ellicott City, a $10 million estate built by the former owners of Pimlico Race Track is for sale. The manor sits on land once owned by a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
