What Road in Elkridge Needs a Speed Bump?

Elkridge, MD- Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Elkridge. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Elkridge, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

• "Elkridge Crossing Way. People want to avoid the traffic light at Rt 1/Montgomery Road and come into our neighborhood from Rt 1 Southbound at a high rate of speed."
• "Elkridge Crossing Way. Traffic has been awfu,l and people who don't live here use it to cut through to get to Route 1 or Montgomery Road. We are a neighborhood full of children and pets and it's quite frankly dangerous!"
• "Landing Road needs a few! Too many fatalities. Something has to change."
• "Elkridge Crossing Way can use few. Cars are speeding and taking this street as alternative to Rt.1. Lots of children."
• "Old Washington Road. Cars speed up that road and run school bus lights."
• "Elkridge Crossing Way. Too many people fly through using it as a shortcut."
• "Rowanberry Drive needs one desperately!!!!! People fly down that road all the time."
• "Ducketts lane since the school is there cars are always speeding up and down that road."
• "Hanover and Old Washington."
• "Landing Road needs a few! Too many fatalities. Something has to change."
