Weather Decision Made For After School Activities: Howard County Public Schools

Howard County Public School System officials have cancelled after school activities for Friday, Dec. 5, due to a winter weather advisory.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — All afternoon and evening activities involving students and staff with the Howard County Public School System have been cancelled for Friday, Dec. 5, due to the winter weather advisory released Friday afternoon by the National Weather Service.

All afternoon childcare programs in HCPSS schools, sponsored by the Columbia Association and the Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks, will remain open.

Students scheduled for after-school activities will be sent home using the departure method identified in Family File for typical school days, unless parents/guardians notify the school otherwise.

All community-sponsored programs in HCPSS buildings are canceled.

The winter weather advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. Friday night and lasts until 1 a.m. It calls for light freezing rain and drizzle with a light glaze of ice. Any melted snow from the last system will refreeze, the NWS stated.
