Construction Project Could Slow Traffic Along 6th Street
Drivers should note that a construction project along 6th Street in North Laurel could slow traffic while crews install a new sidewalk.
NORTH LAUREL, MD — Drivers should anticipate slower traffic movement along 6th Street for a construction project starting Wednesday to install a new Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk from Decatur Road to Meredith Avenue in North Laurel.
The project includes the construction of approximately 350 linear feet of sidewalk and new curb and gutter. It's designed to improve accessibility in the area by closing a gap in the sidewalk network to better connect community members to the North Laurel Community Center. Weather permitting, the project should wrap up Nov. 7.
"In the last seven years, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects, allowing us to construct, expand and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier and more inclusive community for all. Like our other sidewalk enhancements throughout the county, this project builds upon our best-in-the-nation Complete Streets Policy and impactful WalkHoward initiatives to improve neighborhood connections and provide our residents with safe, healthy and enhanced transportation options," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
