Lane Closures Planned For Speed Hump Installations Along 2 Roads In Howard County
Drivers should plan ahead for required lane closures starting June 23 so that crews can install speed humps along 2 roads in Howard County.
ELKRIDGE, MD — A construction project to install speed humps on Hanover Road from Old Washington Road in Elkridge to Anderson Avenue in Hanover and Furnace Avenue from Main Street to Race Road in Elkridge will start June 23.
Weather permitting, the project should wrap up by late July.
The speed humps are part of Howard County's plan to cut down on speeding vehicles along the two roads. Work will start on Hanover Road and finish on Furnace Avenue.

Signs will be posted to alert drivers and residents about the construction, and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic through the work zone, since only one lane of traffic will be open during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This strategy and others can be reviewed in Howard County's Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy.

"In Howard County, we are committed to making our streets and roads safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers and all road users. Through our Neighborhood Traffic Calming program, we are bringing more traffic calming solutions to neighborhoods to slow down speeds and improve safety across the county. These traffic calming interventions are among the first to be implemented since we updated our Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy last year. When complete, these neighborhood streets in Elkridge will be safer and more friendly for all," stated Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
