Man Dies After Hitting Pole While Fleeing Police: Authorities
Preliminary investigation indicates the officer deactivated emergency equipment and did not pursue the car, police said.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A man was killed in a crash Sunday after fleeing police in Ellicott City, according to law enforcement.
An officer in an unmarked Howard County police vehicle tried to stop a 2013 Honda Accord shortly after 9:30 a.m. in the area of Route 29 and Rogers Avenue, authorities said. The Accord fled, according to police, who said preliminary investigation indicates the officer deactivated emergency equipment and did not pursue the car.
The Accord hit a utility pole while traveling south on Rogers Avenue at Faber Way, and the driver, a man, died at the scene, the Howard County Police Department said.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police, who said Rogers Avenue was closed for about six hours.
