Bridge Replacement Project Will Affect Traffic

A project to replace the Old Montgomery Road Bridge will affect traffic, Howard County leaders shared.

COLUMBIA, MD — The community can learn more about a project to replace the Old Montgomery Road bridge spanning the Lake Elkhorn Branch that will affect traffic.

The proposed project calls for the replacement of the existing weight restricted, steel beam bridge with a new concrete bridge, improvements to the roadway approach and the installation of new traffic barriers within the project limits, the county stated.

During the construction project, a temporary one-lane bridge will be installed to maintain traffic flow in the area. Currently in the design phase, with 30 percent design completion, the project is scheduled to start construction in the spring of 2027 and weather permitting, wrap up by that fall. The bridge is located near 8910 Old Montgomery Road in Columbia.
