Expect Traffic Lane, Sidewalk Closures During Project To Install School Crossing Signs
A project to install ADA compliant sidewalk ramps and school crossing signs will require lane and sidewalk closures, officials say.

ELKRIDGE, MD — A project to install Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk ramps and school crossing signs at the southeastern intersection of Old Washington Road and Augustine Avenue in Elkridge will start June 9 and temporary lane closures should be anticipated. A sidewalk also will be closed.
Weather permitting, the project should wrap up by late June 2025, county officials stated.
Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, since temporary lane closures can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sidewalk along the west side of Old Washington Road and along the east side at Augustine Avenue also will be closed during construction of the ramp, county officials said.

"To provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options, we have invested more than $65 million in multimodal transportation projects like this one in the last seven years, compared to just $11.6 million during the prior four-year period. Projects like this allow us to construct, expand and improve our infrastructure to ensure a safer, healthier and more inclusive community. This builds upon other Complete Streets and multimodal projects that we have advanced in the Elkridge area, including the Montgomery Road sidewalk project, the Roosevelt Boulevard sidewalk project and forthcoming traffic calming improvements to Hanover Road and Furnace Avenue," stated Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
