Community Meeting Set on Edgewood Violence

The sheriff's office is increasing patrols and taking other steps to address recent crimes there.

Harford County Sheriff L. Jesse Bane is asking Edgewood residents to voice their concerns about recent violence.

Bane announced Tuesday plans to hold a community meeting as part of a "strategic, summer initiative" to tackle the issue. The meeting will be held next Wednesday, July 3 at 7 p.m. in the Edgewood Recreation Center gymnasium at 1980 Brookside Drive.

"For the last several weeks, my deputies have worked tirelessly, around the clock, to respond to the violence that has recently erupted. It has been a challenging and time consuming effort," Bane said in a release. This is a job that we cannot do alone."

Last week, 15-year-old Andre Jordan was charged as an adult with attempted murder after allegedly shooting another boy, a bystander, during a fight.

The sheriff's office has increased patrols and used intelligence in an effort to address the crime spike in Edgewood, according to the release. Officials also ask residents to submit tips, which can be done anonymously online, by phone at 1-888-540-8477 or by texting CRIMES (begin the message with "MCS").
