UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Train In Joppa

The accident took place between the CSX railroad Maryland Route 152 and Joppa Road crossings.

UPDATE: (4:35 p.m.)—A man apparently wearing earbuds and walking on a railroad track in Joppa, MD, was struck and killed Thursday by a train that came up from behind him.

Police have identified the victim as Kevin Scott Street, 37, of Aberdeen.

Around 12:11 p.m., the Street was walking westbound on the CSX railroad tracks between the Maryland Route 152 and Joppa Road crossings, said Edward Hopkins, spokesman with the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

At the same time, a train, also headed westbound, came up behind him.

Witnesses told police the pedestrian had earbuds or headphones on at the time, Hopkins said.

The train blew its horn, but the Street apparently did not initially hear it, Hopkins said. At the last minute, Street turned, but not in time to get out of the train's path, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

"The train subsequently struck the victim and killed him," Hopkins said.

Paramedics with the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company arrived at the scene, but Street's injuries were too extensive. His body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

The railroad tracks were shut down for about 90 minutes while CSX police and the sheriff's deputies investigated.
