National Passport Day at Greenbelt Post Office

Saturday is National Passport Day and the Greenbelt Post Office will be giving away information from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Now U.S. citizens need passports to visit both Mexico and Canada, so if you haven’t gotten one yet, Saturday is a great day to do so.

The Greenbelt Post Office will participate in National Passport Day by hosting a passport event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The event is meant to provide information to those interested in applying for passports and they will be accepting applications for passports that day.

For those interested in applying, check out their site for the online form or print out the one provided. For applicants that are 16 years old or older, the fee is $140 for an adult passport book and card, while it’s $95 for a minor passport book and card for those under 16 years of age. There is also a surcharge of $25 for the execution fee.

After applying for a passport, you’ll probably want to know how long until you receive it. For routine service, it will take four to six weeks from the time of the application and then there is expedited service, 2-3 weeks door-to-door, when overnight delivery is requested and paid for both ways.

U.S. citizens now need passports to enter Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda.
