The Cockeysville Volunteer Fire Company is helping to fight breast cancer by acting as ambassadors for the Real Men Wear Pink campaign of the American Cancer Society, the leader in the fight against breast cancer! Come to the firefighters' fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse Hunt Valley for Dine to Donate:

  • For the first time, female breast cancer has surpassed lung cancer as the most diagnosed cancer worldwide.
  • Approximately 284,200 people will be diagnosed in 2021: 281,550 women and 2,650 men.
  • Approximately 44,130 people will die from breast cancer in 2021: 43,600 women and 530 men.
  • There are more than 3.8 million breast cancer survivors in the US today including those who completed treatment and those still undergoing treatment.
  • The death rate from breast cancer dropped by 41% from 1989 to 2018 as a result of earlier detection through increased awareness and mammography screening, as well as advances in treatments.
  • Despite this drop, Black women are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than White women overall and are twice as likely to die if they are younger than age 50.1 .
  • The American Cancer Society currently has $76 million invested in breast cancer-specific research through 174 grants.
  • The American Cancer Society has invested more than $56 million in metastatic breast cancer research.
