Northwestern High Taking Low Temp Plunge

Seeking to raise money for the Maryland Special Olympics, a team of students and staff from Northwestern High School are set to take an icy plunge this morning.

It might be a bit warm for this time of the year, but even with temperatures topping out in the high 50s today you might think twice before jumping into the bay.

Not so for a team of students and staff from Northwestern High School. Today they will participate in the third annual Cool School Challenge as part of the 2012 Polar Bear Plunge which raises money for Special Olympics Maryland. That means they'll be jumping into the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis.

So far the Northwestern team has raised $6,230 from 74 donations, more than doubling their goal of $3,000. Teacher Carly Finkelstein has raised the most out of the team, securing $1,355, significantly exceeding her fundraising goal of $1,000.
