📰 News we're reading

• What's behind Sunday closures at all but 9 Montgomery County libraries (wtop.com) — Kensington residents should know that while most Montgomery County libraries will close on Sundays starting Jan. 11, the Noyes Library in Kensington was already excluded from Sunday hours and remains without them. The county cites staffing and service quality, not budget cuts, and may use a mobile outreach van to reach communities around closed branches while adding limited free printing for patrons.

• UMass Lowell hockey team nipped in Cactus Cup title game in California, 3-2 (lowellsun.com) — A UMass Lowell hockey player from Kensington junior defenseman Sean Kilcullen, picked up an assist as his team narrowly lost the Cactus Cup title game 3–2 in California. The River Hawks rallied from a 3–0 deficit, with goals in the third period and a strong defensive effort that limited St. Cloud State to 17 shots.

• 'There are worse places to be stranded': Caribbean travelers face flight troubles (usatoday.com) — A Kensington family is among thousands of travelers stranded after the FAA temporarily halted most commercial flights to and from Puerto Rico amid security concerns tied to Venezuela. Their JetBlue return trip home to Kensington via San Juan and Reagan National was canceled, forcing them to scramble for alternate flights and lodging. The story also shares practical tips for handling major flight disruptions.
