Video Of Gorilla Statue Theft From Antique Store In Kensington Released By Police

Police released surveillance video Wednesday of a man suspected of stealing a gorilla statue from an antique store in Kensington on Jan. 4.

KENSINGTON, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department released surveillance video Wednesday of a man suspected of stealing a gorilla statue from an antique store in Kensington on Jan. 4.

The gorilla statue was stolen from Design Emporium Antiques in the 4000 block of Howard Avenue in Kensington.

At about 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, the suspect arrived at the store in an older model Chevrolet Colorado Z71, got out of the truck and approached the statue, police said. The suspect then cut the cable that was locking the gorilla statue to the front of the store, loaded it into the truck and left the scene, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5-feet, 10-inches tall, medium build, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, light gray sweatpants and light-colored shoes, according to police.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the theft is asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.
