Car Seat Safety Check in Prince George's County

Certified technicians will check the installation of car seats and boosters Dec. 4.

Ensure that your child is as safe as possible in a vehicle at the car seat check.

The Prince George’s County Police Department and Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union will host the safety check 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Certified car seat technicians will be at Croom Volunteer Fire Department, 7710 Croom Road, in Upper Marlboro to make sure that car seats and boosters are properly in place.

Car seats will be checked in order of arrival. This event is free and each check will take about 30 minutes. Attendees are asked to bring the manufacturer’s manuals for the vehicle and car seat if available.

What type of car seat should children be buckled in? According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the proper seats should be used for children:

  • Rearing-facing car seat ages: Birth to two
  • Forward-facing car seat ages: Two to at least five
  • Booster seat ages: Five until seat belts fit properly
  • Seat belt ages: When seat belts fit properly without booster seat
