Collins Earns Electrolysis Instructors License: One of only two in Maryland
Eileen Ebersole Collins LEI, CPE of Columbia-and Laurel-based Executive Electrolysis, Inc. is now one of only two practicing Licensed Electrology Instructors (LEI) in Maryland. Collins, who is a 28-year professional in the field, took advantage of COVID shutdowns to complete the instructor level requirements. These included 100 hours of online coursework, and 80 hours hands-on training.
Because Maryland has no accredited electrolysis schools (the last closed approximately 15 years ago), Collins enrolled at the California Electrology Academy in Corona, CA. She completed her online courses in October, 2020, and then traveled to California in November to complete her hands-on training. As a licensed electrolysis instructor, Collins will be able to provide the training required for students interested in the field to become licensed in Maryland. Electrolysis provides permanent hair removal services for all types of hair and skin type using a variety of techniques including: thermolysis (which uses localized heat), galvanic (which chemically dissolves the follicles), and blend (which utilizes both methods).

According to Collins, her goal is to open a Maryland-area school in the near future to provide training for persons interested in entering the field in a setting that will not require out-of-state travel. She noted that electrolysis provides an in-demand service that can provide a good income and flexible hours. Students are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent, but no prior advanced education prior to taking the classes needed to sit for a license. While hourly billing and earnings for electrologists vary from region to region, in Maryland a firm like Executive Electrolysis with experienced professionals typically charges between $100.00-$140.00/hr.
Eileen E. Collins is currently President of the Maryland Association of Professional Electrologists, Inc. (MAPE), and a member of the board of the American Electrology Association. She is a former MAPE Vice President and Program Chair Collins. holds an AA degree from Howard Community College.
