Prince George's County Sheriff Celebrates Second Election

Melvin High was sworn in as sheriff for Prince George's County on Dec. 4.

The sheriff is back in town and he’s bringing along new goals and initiatives.

Sheriff Melvin High was elected as sheriff for Prince George’s County for the second consecutive four-year term. He was sworn in at the courthouse on Dec. 4.

As his second term begins, one of High’s top priorities and has a zero tolerance for domestic violence. During his swearing in remarks he explained that he will work towards implementing actions within the community so that the people of Prince George’s County always feel safe.

Another of his initiatives is to improve the police facility so that the work being done is high quality. He believes that keeping communication open between officials is key in order to serve the community properly.

“Critical to such a vitally important partnership between law enforcement and the community it serves is the trust and respect that we have for each other - but that trust and respect must be anchored in the certainty of all - that your organization operates with the highest standards of integrity, honor and professionalism,” High said at the ceremony.
