Montgomery Village Man Faces Murder Charge In Hagerstown Shooting

Authorities say a Montgomery Village man has been arrested for the shooting death of a 21-year-old Hagerstown resident.

MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, MD — A Montgomery Village man has been arrested for the shooting death of a 21-year-old Hagerstown resident, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Lauron Zachwrie Hoyle, 35, was arrested at his home last week and charged with first-degree murder and 18 other offenses, including second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a call about a shooting in the 17400 block of Fair Oaks Court in Hagerstown. When officers entered one of the homes, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, according to a press release.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Kalen Nathaniel Black, of Hagerstown. Authorities said he died at the scene.

It is not immediately clear if Hoyle and Black knew each other before the shooting, but police say the suspect and the occupants of the home were in a dispute prior to the incident.

"While the facts of the case are still being investigated, it is alleged that Hoyle came to the home following a dispute with the occupants and opened-fire on Black inside the home," officials said in a statement. "Hoyle then fled and was ultimately arrested just before 3:30 pm on Dec. 15, 2020, at his home in Montgomery County, MD, with the help of the Montgomery County Police Department."
