Loyola Defeats Maryland To Win 1st National Lacrosse Title
The Greyhounds' 9-3 victory over the Terps in Foxborough capped an impressive season that ended with an all-Maryland NCAA final.
After defeating Johns Hopkins and Duke, the University of Maryland's men's lacrosse squad appeared to be coming into Gilette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, on Monday with the momentum to take home a national title.
But the Loyola Greyhounds had different plans.
Led by Severna Park native Eric Lusby, Loyola handily defeated Maryland, 9-3, to win the North Baltimore university's first national championship in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse. The Greyhounds defense and goalie Jack Runkel held the Terps to the fewest goals ever scored in a national championship game, according to the NCAA.

"Eric Lusby was named the Championship's Most Outstanding Player after scoring four goals in the title game and setting a tournament record with 17 in four games. He also ends his season with a school-season record 54 goals, surpassing teammate Mike Sawyer who set the record two games ago and finished the year with 52," according to Loyola's online game recap.
