9/11 Ceremony In Anne Arundel Will Remember Victims

MILLERSVILLE, MD — Anne Arundel County will remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a ceremony this Saturday. The event will mark the 20th anniversary of the tragedy. These officials will attend:

• County Executive Steuart Pittman
• Police Chief Amal Awad
• Assistant Fire Chief Larry Schultz

After a few remarks and a moment of silence, the trio will lay a reflective wreath.

The remembrance starts at 9:30 a.m. It will take place at the county's 9/11 memorial. The monument sits outside the Anne Arundel County Police Department Headquarters at 8495 Veterans Highway in Millersville.

The memorial was built with steel from Ground Zero, and it was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2010. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said it honors "all public safety personnel who responded that day and who continue to respond each day, remaining ever vigilant to protect the liberties and the freedom of our great nation."

The 9/11 attacks claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. CNN reported that 48 were from Maryland and that one was from Anne Arundel County.

That local victim was 29-year-old Wayne Terrial Davis of Fort Meade, the news outlet noted. CNN added that Davis was on the 106th floor of Tower 1 at the World Trade Center. To learn more about his story, click here.
