Arundel Student Issues Threat in Class, Mentions Gun

A student at Arundel High School could face disciplinary action after issuing a threat during class and mentioning the use of a gun, according to a letter from the school principal on Monday. 

School officials said the student was not armed, but was removed from the building. 

The incident reportedly happened at about 9 a.m. Monday and school administrators were alerted, according to the letter from Principal Sharon Stratton. The School Resource Officer at Arundel interviewed and searched the student but found no weapons.  

The letter posted online and sent home with students said no students were specifically threatened and no one was hurt. 

“We are working closely with all involved parties to resolve this issue in the best interests of the student and our school,” Stratton said in the letter. “Our school and our county Police Department take these situations very seriously, and we will apply appropriate consequences in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.”

Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier confirmed the student was removed from the building. 

Stratton urged parents to tell their children to communicate any safety issues.

“Please urge your child to immediately communicate any perceived threats or other information about situations that could present a danger to those in our building so that we can thoroughly investigate the information,” she wrote.
