DOD Issues Details on Pay During Shutdown

The Department of Defense has released some details on when civilian defense workers can expect to be paid while the government shutdown continues. 

The Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service has published a reference guide with details on pay, as well as policies regarding sick leave and vacation.

Exempted and Excepted Workers

Will received regular pay and allowances, including pay for the week of Oct. 1-5. They may take annual and sick leave during the shutdown. 

Recalled Employees - (Those who were furloughed but returned on Oct. 6))

Will receive a partial paycheck for the period of Oct. 1-5. There is an expectation that workers will receive back pay for their furloughed period, but that requires approval from Congress and President Obama.

Furloughed Employees

Those workers still on furlough will only be paid for work up to Sept. 30, unless Congress approves a back pay measure. They will receive some pay for conducting orderly shutdown measures on Oct. 1. Furloughed workers will not accrue leave during the shutdown. If Congress restores pay, it will also restore leave.
