Fort Meade Hosts Facebook Town Hall

Leaders at Fort Meade took time online Wednesday night to get feedback from residents and workers during a special "Town Hall" on Facebook. 

Installation Commander Col. Brian Foley hosted the session and responded to a scores of questions on issues ranging from traffic to tenants at the new Post Exchange. 

Facebook user Bryant Taylor asked Foley about plans to make Fort Meade more friendly to pedestrians and bikes, referencing recent guidelines for "Smart Growth" on installations. 

"Improvement of road/transportation infrastructure on and off the installation will be my top priority for the next three years," Foley responded. "All plans for future expansion and widening our road infrastructure on the installation include side-walks and bike paths. In addition I have directed establishment of a bike/pedestrian gate in the southeast corner of the installation closest to the Odenton MARC station. I fully concur with the need you express and will work hard at it during my tenure." 

Foley also addressed some concern from residents about the quality of schools on the installation. 

"I have personally visited three of the seven schools so far and will visit all by the end of November," Foley said in response to one service member who lives off post. "As a parent whose son is currently enrolled in school on our installation I am deeply interested in the quality of education offered and will work closely with Anne Arundel county school board and county superintendent during my tenure."
