Man to Serve 1 Year for Royal Inn Shooting

A man convicted in a shooting incident at the Royal Inn in Odenton will serve one year in jail.

Dakaree Johnson, 19, received two five-year sentences from a judge in Anne Arundel Circuit Court, but all but 12 months were suspended.

Johnson, a Brooklyn resident, was convicted in October of second-degree assault, after prosecutors said he crashed a party in February at the Royal Inn. He was accused of punching at least one person and firing shots toward party-goers on the second floor of the motel.

Johnson is scheduled to begin his jail sentence in March. As part of his sentencing, Johnson is forbidden from contacting any witnesses in the case, and must complete high school or obtain his GED after he is released and on probation. He must also write a letter to the judge outlining his "future plans," according to online court records.
