State Police: Phony Apple Products Sold at Arundel Mills

Maryland State Police last week raided two stores at Arundel Mills after reporting the discovery of hundreds of phony Apple products for sale. 

State police said they executed a search warrant on August 23 against the Cyberion store and the ST Tech Pros kiosk, and seized a variety of items ranging from phony iPhones to counterfeit covers. None of the products were produced by Apple Corp. 

"State police investigators consulted an Apple representative during the investigation to confirm the counterfeit nature of these items," state police said in a press release. "An estimated value of the counterfeit items recovered by state police totals more than $89,000."

The seizures came after a 7-month investigation. State police said troopers bought items from both locations and confirmed with Apple that the items were counterfeit. 

Investigators are expected to present evidence to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. No one has been charged in the case at this point. 

The reportedly counterfeit items included:

• 24 counterfeit iPhones
• 250 counterfeit iPhone colored fronts
• 213 counterfeit iPhone colored backings
• 128 sets of counterfeit colored cell phone conversion kits
• 121 counterfeit iPhone and iPad covers
• 27 counterfeit Apple product ID stickers
• 69 counterfeit iPad replacement screens
• 300+ various internal iPhone parts.
