Tips Coming in On Chapelgate Incident

A community meeting last month involving residents of Chapelgate has led to several helpful tips relating to a case of shots being fired at a home, police said. 

Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis said that the department has received a number of calls to the Metro Crime Stoppers hotline relating to the incident on Sept. 23. Police said they continue to investigate the case, in which someone fired shots at a home on Chapelgate Drive. A family was home at the time and one 19-month-old girl sustained minor injuries when a bullet fragment lodged in her head. 

In the days following the incident, Davis expressed frustration that the department had received not a single call with information relating to the case. But Davis said calls began coming in after a meeting with residents and police on Sept. 26.

"We've received several substantial tips offering significant investigative value," he said. He declined to indicate whether an arrest was imminent. 

Police said witnesses described a suspect as a black man standing about 6 feet in height with a slim build and wearing a gray and black jacket and dark jeans. He was carrying a long gun and drove off in a red or maroon Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis, police said. 

Members of the Chapelgate community are scheduled to meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Ark & Dove Presbyterian Church.
