Bibliophiles, Read On: Extended Library Hours in Montgomery County

Several county libraries will now be open later, including more hours on Sundays.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett recently announced an expansion of hours, staffing, and resources at 16 branches within the Montgomery County Public Library system.

“For me, a true measure of the value of our public libraries is their accessibility to those they serve. Closed library doors are closed opportunities for learning,” Leggett said in a news release. “We can have the best system in the country, with the best service and programs, but the branches need to be open and accessible at convenient times, be staffed sufficiently to serve the customers and have a comprehensive collection that will meet the needs of our diverse, growing population.”

Between the 2014 and 2015 fiscal years, the collective hours of operation will increase by more than 100 hours and $500,000 in funding, bringing the total hours of operation to the highest it’s been in the last five years.
