Solar Array Installation Well Underway at University Park Elementary
Installation has been ongoing for several weeks.
The much-anticipated installation of the solar array at University Park Elementary School is well underway.
It's hard to see from the photos, but many of the 215 solar panels have already been installed on the roof of the local elementary school.
The project is a joint effort between the town of University Park and Prince Georges County Public Schools. The solar panels will generate enough clean energy to power up to nine homes annually. Additionally, the project will also generate the town and the school system shared revenue stream of up to $18,000 a year in electricity sales and tax credits.
In addition to providing energy and a revenue stream to the school system, the solar array will also provide learning opportunities for local children. Students across Prince Georges County will be able to see the array performing in real time allowing them to learn about clean energy.
