Falcon Field Hockey Off to Strong Start

The Severna Park field hockey team defeated Broadneck Monday night.

Severna Park High School’s field hockey team is off to an impressive start.

Monday night’s 1-0 win over Broadneck capped off a 3-0 opening stretch of the 2013 season for the Falcons. Earlier this season, Severna Park topped Harford County field hockey powerhouse Fallston 2-0, and Bethesda Chevy-Chase 1-0.

Jessica Valvano’s second-half goal sealed the 1-0 victory over Broadneck Monday night, The Capital Gazette reported.

Last year, Severna Park started off the regular season with a loss to rival Broadneck. Monday night’s victory gives the Falcons the start they need if they expect to once again be a contender for the state title.

The Capital Gazette reported that Monday’s game was a defensive battle between the county rivals, which is a trend that has continued throughout the opening of the 2013 season for the Falcons. Severna Park has yet to surrender a goal in its first three games.
