Fundraiser at Cafe Mezzanotte Supports Anti-Trafficking Efforts

An event to raise funds and support for anti-trafficking efforts in Maryland is coming to Cafe Mezzanotte in Severna Park on Sept. 21.

UEmpower is hosting a Food, Wine and Music charity event that will feature an afternoon full of food, drink, and music at Cafe Mezzanotte. The event will benefit The Samaritan Women and Safe House of Hope.  

The Samaritan Women offer a long-term transitional residence program for victims of human trafficking. Safe House of Hope is a drop-in program that helps victims of sex trafficking become an active part of a healthy community

Funds raised during the event at Cafe Mezzanotte will benefit both anti-trafficking organizations, and help fund a forum for lawmakers on Nov. 6 in Severna Park.

“The primary objective for this particular fundraiser is raising funds to support these two agencies, but to also help offset the cost for the forum,” said Jeanne Allert, founder and executive director for The Samaritan Women. “The forum will provide the opportunity for lawmakers across the state to have a conversation with the advocates and survivors themselves.”

The fundraiser is being hosted by UEmpower, which is a separate organization that empowers others to make a difference.

Allert said the fundraising event wouldn’t be possible without UEmpower, who she called “a gift from heaven.”

“It’s an excellent example of how citizens can get involved with a cause,” Allert said. “How do people help those who are helping others? That’s really what [UEmpower] is doing. They provide a direct service to us so we can focus on the service work that we do.”

The Food, Wine and Music charity event on Sept. 21 will have indoor and outdoor seating, live music, unlimited food and drink, along with beer, wine and spirit tasting stations. 

The night will also offer informational booths and speakers, as well as a silent auction. Tickets are $50 a person in advance, or $75 a person at the door. To purchase tickets, or for more information, click here.
