Severna Park Native To Lead Washington College Sailing Team

Washington College senior Andrew Vernon, a native of Severna Park, will help lead the college's sailing team.

SEVERNA PARK, MD — Washington College senior Andrew Vernon, a native of Severna Park, Md., has been handpicked to provide "veteran leadership" for the college's sailing team. Last year, Vernon sailed in the War Memorial and America Trophy last year. He also was named the 2019 Team MVP after competing in a team-high 15 regattas.

Head coach Bradley Adam finished his first season with the team qualifying for the War Memorial for the first time in three years and the America Trophy for the first time in two years. This year, his goal is for the team to improve upon its 17th and 16th place finishes, respectively. The team opens its season this weekend at the Old Dominion's Riley Cup. The only home regatta of the fall, the Washington College Fall, is scheduled for Oct. 12-13. This year's War Memorial will take place two weeks later at Merchant Marine.
