Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell Tribute Concert Showcases Rising Folk Artists

'Joan & Joni,' performed by emerging folk musicians and songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin, will premiere on Jan. 14.

Joan & Joni, a Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell tribute performance will make its debut at Seekers Church on Wednesday, Jan. 14, featuring two rising musicians in the Washington, D.C., area.

At the event, trained singers and songwriters Allison Shapira and Kipyn Martin team up to perform the ‘60s folk revival music that was so influential to their artistic development.

Shapira, an opera singer from Boston who redirected her passion for music to folk singing and songwriting, met Martin, a 2013 and 2014 Mid-Atlantic Song contest award-winner hailing from the Shenandoah region, in 2011. Immediately the pair struck a chord, finding mutual appreciation and inspiration from folk music.
