Lightning Strikes Cause 2 Separate House Fires In Takoma Park
Lightning strikes during Monday's severe storm caused two separate house fires in Takoma Park, officials said.
TAKOMA PARK, MD — Lightning strikes during Monday's severe storm caused two separate house fires in Takoma Park, officials said.
The first fire broke out at about 7:50 p.m. in the 7200 block of Holly Ave. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said a lightning strike hit a Victorian home, sparking a roof fire.
One resident got out of the home safely, Piringer said. The family is displaced and the damage is estimated at $200,000.

The second fire occurred less than an hour later at about 8:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Larch Ave. No civilians were injured, but a firefighter was, Piringer said.

The family is displaced and damage is estimated at $225,000.
One hundred Montgomery County firefighters responded to the incidents.
