Montgomery County Hospitals Welcome Four Girls as First Babies Born in 2013

Babies were born early at MedStar Montgomery, Holy Cross, Shady Grove Adventist and Washington Adventist hospitals.

 

Four girls joined the ranks of infants born in Montgomery County at the turn of the new year, with two of them born right at midnight as Jan. 1, 2013 dawned.

Emily Anita Mendoza was born at the stroke of midnight at MedStar Montgomery in Olney, according to ABC7. According to her mother, Elvira, she was supposed to be due on Jan. 9, but labor was induced due to the mother's high blood pressure.

Also at midnight, Baby Brianna was born at Holy Cross in Silver Spring. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 6 ounces. 

A couple hours later, Shady Grove Adventist in Rockville welcomed its first baby, a girl weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces.

Later in the morning, the first baby born at Washington Adventist in Takoma Park was also a girl. Weighing 6 pounds and 13 ounces, she arrived at 7:52 a.m. 

“With over 105 years of history in this community, Washington Adventist Hospital has welcomed the arrival of babies for decades and recognizes the special experience of each birth,” said Kathleen Garrison, assistant nurse manager of Labor and Delivery at Washington Adventist.
