Part of Sligo Creek Parkway Closed

Not the first time concrete has fallen from the bridge, Braithwaite said.

Update 8 p.m.: Sligo Creek Parkway is now reopened, SHA said. They deemed the Carroll Avenue bridge to be safe and will have a crew out tomorrow to assess the situation again.

The state-owned bridge has long been in need of repair, Takoma Park Director of Public Works Daryl Braithwaite said at Monday night's city council meeting. This isn't the first time concrete has fallen from the bridge, she said.

Sligo Creek Parkway between Maple Avenue and Old Carroll Avenue has been closed due to concrete from the Carroll Avenue bridge falling onto the roadway, Takoma Park Police Crime Analyst Andrew Gucciardo said.

Since the state owns that road, the city has notified the State Highway Administration who will do the repairs.

A time frame for repair and reopening is not known at this time, Gucciardo said.
