Police Seek Carjacking Suspect In Takoma Park

Police are investigating a carjacking that took place on New Hamsphire Avenue early Friday morning.

TAKOMA PARK, MD — Police are investigating a carjacking that took place on New Hamsphire Avenue early Friday morning.

A man was sitting in his car in the front parking lot of 6800 block of New Hampshire Ave. at about 1:17 a.m. when he was approached by a male suspect who demanded his car keys, police said. The victim initially refused, but the suspect then implied he had a weapon and that he would shoot him.

The victim got out of the vehicle and gave the keys to the suspect, who got into the vehicle and drove away through the exit closest to the Value Furniture and Rugs. The suspect then made a right turn on to southbound New Hampshire Avenue and continued towards the Washington, DC.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 20-30 years old, approximately 6’1, with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a white, short-sleeve t-shirt, black pants and a white hat.

The stolen car is a 2006 silver Chrysler 300, Maryland tag #7CZ5589, police said. A lookout was given to surrounding jurisdictions. The vehicle has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) stolen vehicle database. Investigation continues under case #170526721.
