Loyola Blakefield Wins Cyber Security Competition

Loyola Blakefield, one of seven high school teams competing, won the Maryland Cyber Challenge on Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

The competition is part of the CyberMaryland 2013, which is currently being held at the Baltimore Convention Center. The challenge is aimed at attracting more students to pursue careers in cyber security, according to a news release.

Members of the Loyola Blakefield team won $5,000 for their higher education. The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Foundation, provided the prize.

"MDC3 and CyberMaryland 2013 is a great opportunity to provide our current and future cyber experts with the cyber security education and practical skills needed to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure," Lou Von Thaer, president of one of the competition’s sponsors Leidos, Inc., said in a news release.

A team from Loyola Blakefield also won the 2013 Global Cyberlympics, a network defense competition, in July.
