NAACP Honoring Kamenetz's Community Service

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will be honored for outstanding performance and community service by The Baltimore County chapter of the NAACP.

He will be honored on Sunday during the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday during the local chapter’s Freedom Fund Awards Banquet, according to a news release from the county.

"It is remarkable how much our society has changed for the better over these past five decades in terms of civil rights, but I believe it is up to each of us to work to ensure that everyone in our society has the same opportunities to thrive," Kamenetz said in the release.

Anthony Fugett, president of the Baltimore County NAACP, praised Kamenetz for producing tangible results in increasing diversity among the county government’s workforce.

"Between his exceptionally effective management of County government and the across the board increases in diversity that he has accomplished in the County workforce—especially among the leadership ranks, and in public safety—we knew we had to recognize him for his dedicated efforts," Fugett said in the new release. 

According to the county, the African-American department heads have increased from 22 percent to 44 percent during Kamenetz’s time in office.

Baltimore County Board of Education member Marisol Johnson, Charles Priddie and Col. James Pennington will also receive awards during the ceremony.
