Library Renovation To Modernize, Expand Baltimore County Branch
A library will undergo a $22 million renovation in Baltimore County. The project will modernize and expand the branch.

WOODLAWN, MD — The Woodlawn library will undergo a $22 million renovation starting later this fall, officials announced Wednesday. That will force the branch to close temporarily and relocate to an interim location.
The branch is currently 25,900 square feet and only one level. The library is now expanding to the lower level, which used to house the Baltimore County Health Department. This will grow the branch to 34,000 square feet.
The building will add 21st-century amenities like:

The branch's last day for customers is Sept. 26. The library is holding a renovation kickoff ceremony and family fun day on Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"We understand the importance of a public library in the Woodlawn area and the gap that would be felt if it were to close during the renovation. Therefore, the library has set up a temporary location at 6660 Security Boulevard Suite 13," BCPL said.
The temporary location opens on Oct. 6. It will offer basic services, including:
- Borrowing materials
- Computers
- Programs
- Printing and fax
- Study spaces
Drop boxes and Storyville, a play-and-learn center promoting early literacy and school readiness, will be closed during the renovation. Families can still visit the Storyville at the Rosedale branch.
Other ways to engage little ones include attending Story Times, signing them up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and taking advantage of digital library resources like Kanopy Kids and Mango Languages Little Pim.
Residents can also visit the other 18 branches and the digital library that is available 24/7.
