Baltimore Blast Sign Loyola Standout
Akira Fitzgerald, a former All-Metro and All-ACC squad pick, joins the Blast this season.

The Baltimore Blast aren't looking far for their next goalkeeper.
Loyola Blakefield graduate Akira Fitzgerald will join the indoor soccer team for their season opener next month, pending league approval.
Fitzgerald, a four-time letter winner at Loyola, went on to play for Wake Forest University. He played 67 consecutive games and was second-team All-ACC in his senior season. Check out his profile on Wake Forest's site.

He graduated Wake Forest in 2011, then spent his summer with the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League.
“I am happy to be able to announce Akira to our 2011-12 Blast team,” team general manager Kevin Healey said in a press release. “Akira is a fine young man and an outstanding goalkeeper. We are always looking to add quality players from our area and I look forward to watching Akira grow as a professional for the Baltimore Blast.”

Fitzgerald will likely split time with Sagu, now entering his ninth pro season and seventh in Baltimore.
The Blast open their season on Nov. 12 against the Syracuse Silver Knights at 1st Mariner Arena.
