BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Health experts are advising people who have COVID-19 symptoms or who have been around someone who tested positive for the virus to get tested before holiday gatherings.

"We have the ability to ensure that everyone can get tested, vaccinated and boosted," Baltimore County Health Director Gregory Branch said at a news conference this week.

Still, many have had trouble accessing testing, with some pharmacies like CVS booked up with testing appointments until after Christmas.

"Baltimore County will continue to offer free at-home tests on a first come, first serve basis at all County vaccination clinics, testing clinics and health centers," Elyn Garrett Jones, spokesperson for the Baltimore County Department of Health and Human Services, told Patch.

In addition, "as tests are available, the County will coordinate with BCPL [Baltimore County Public Library] on distribution at all BCPL locations and will promote availability," Jones said.

More Supply To Come In 2022

For three days in December, Baltimore County Public Library branches offered free at-home tests on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The library system received 2,000 test kits on Dec. 11, Dec. 16 and Dec. 18, according to Baltimore County Public Library spokesperson Erica Palmisano.

Patch readers reported the supply ran out quickly.

Branches will not be giving out tests at libraries until after the Christmas holiday, Palmisano said.

Residents with questions or concerns about COVID-19 can call the Baltimore County COVID-19 hotline from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 410-887-3816.
