'Crabby Lady' In Towson Scratches Off $100,000 Lottery Win

TOWSON, MD — A woman who bought lottery tickets at a store in the Towson Town Center recently took home the top prize for her game, which was $100,000.

The medical billing employee, who is 61 years old, said she plans to surprise her daughter with a trip to Ocean City and pay off some credit card bills as well as put money toward her retirement.

She bought the ticket at the Cigare By Tobacco Etc. store in the mall in Towson while shopping with her daughter.

“I told her if I win, I’ll buy a dozen crabs,” said the winner, who nicknamed herself “Crabby Lady.”

After letting her daughter scratch two of the tickets, while her daughter commented that her mother never wins anything, the Crabby Lady scratched off the third and found she scored the top prize: $100,000.

“When I matched the 37 and saw the zeros, I knew it was something,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials. “I showed my daughter and she whispered, ‘Mom, it’s $100,000.’ My whole self just lifted up.”

The "Crabby Lady" was one of three people in Maryland to claim a $100,000 prize during the week that ended June 26, according to lottery officials. The others were on the Eastern Shore in Mardela Springs and on Harford Road in Baltimore.

For selling a top prize in the Show Me scratch-off game, the Cigare by Tobacco Etc. store will receive $1,000 from the Maryland Lottery.
