Data Center Proposed, Feedback Requested In Baltimore County
A data center was proposed in Baltimore County. Officials requested feedback on the plan.
WOODLAWN, MD — A data center proposed in Woodlawn will be discussed at a Wednesday meeting in Baltimore County.
The center "may include a 150 MW data center complex on a 42 acre site, a donation of 5 acres of land to BGE for the construction of a new electrical substation, and the purchase of a local Rodeway Inn," said a Monday press release from State Sen. Charles E. Sydnor III (D-District 44).
Construction at the site, located at 1500 Woodlawn Drive, could begin in June or July 2026, Sydnor said. The proposal is led by Security Land and Development LP.

"We have worked hard to support funding to transform Security Square and to establish a Redevelopment Authority to bring the kinds of amenities this community deserves, so we organized this meeting so that the immediately affected communities are well-informed about data centers before anything moves forward," Sydnor said in the release.
Wednesday's meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Woodlawn High School Auditorium.

Residents and stakeholders will be able to learn more about the proposal, ask questions and share feedback.
"Economic development and job creation in the region are significant benefits, but all projects must be evaluated for potential risks to public health, the environment, local infrastructure, and residential quality of life," Del. Aletheia McCaskill (D-District 44B) said in the release. "The well-being of our communities is of highest importance to us, and we must view that well-being holistically."
The panel will include speakers from the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, Nature Forward, the Office of the People's Counsel, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 24 and the Climate Justice Wing of the Maryland Legislative Coalition.
"We are bringing to the community all the information we currently have," Del. Sheila Ruth (D-District 44B) said in the release. "Critical decisions on a project that raises as many concerns as this one cannot be finalized without full transparency from the company and extensive community engagement and public input."
