The Life and Death of Stars: From The Sun To Supernovae and Blackholes

"Much like humans, stars exhibit a diverse range of properties and evolve as they age.  They are born, age, and finally burn out and die." The most famous star, our Sun, is an average star in terms of its age, mass, and temperature and is near mid-life, with another 4.5 billion years to go!  Learn how stars are formed, how and why they age, and how some end their lives as a supernova or black hole with Dr. Jason Kalirai, an Astronomer from the Space Telescope Science Institute. The presentation will be given twice, at 10 a.m. and noon, in Smith Hall, room 326.
