Goucher Extends College President's Contract
Sanford Ungar, Goucher's president since 2001, is now signed through 2016.

Sanford J. Ungar, the president of , will remain in that role through June 2016, the college announced in a statement Monday.
His contract had been set to expire in 2013. Ungar, a journalist and author, has served as Goucher's president since 2001 and in July
“We are elated that Sandy Ungar has agreed to remain as president for another five years, to accomplish the next stage of the transformation we began 10 years ago,” Florence Beck Kurdle, chair of the Goucher Board of Trustees, said in a press release.

Under Ungar, Goucher has embarked on several new construction projects including the Athenaeum and the renovation of the Julia Rogers building, a former library. In 2005, Goucher became the first institution to require its students to study abroad.
Ungar, 66, told Patch in July that Goucher's next big challenge will be in how to do more with less at the respected liberal arts college.

"We have to be innovative about the sort of education we deliver and how it has an impact on people," he said. "I really believe in liberal arts education. I drank the Kool-Aid a long time ago."
