109-Degree Heat Index, High Humidity Draw Warning In MD
It could feel like 109 degrees as high humidity bakes Maryland. A heat advisory is underway, drawing warnings across the Old Line State.

MARYLAND — The heat index could top 100 degrees Friday and Saturday in Maryland. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory as high humidity bakes the state.
It could feel like 109 degrees Friday and 104 degrees Saturday. Real temperatures will be 98 degrees and 95 degrees, respectively.
There's a chance of thunderstorms both nights, which could complicate weekend fireworks schedules.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors," the National Weather Service said in its heat advisory. "Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances."
Meteorologists warned that the steamy conditions could cause heat-related illness.

"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside," the advisory said. "When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke."
The advisory lasts from noon to 8 p.m. Friday. It covers portions of central, north central, northeast and northern Maryland, the District of Columbia and central, northern and northwest Virginia.
"Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1."
