BALTIMORE, MD — "Protecting Americans From Hunger," the Southside Diner website boasts. A national food website argues that it provides the best food in Maryland.

LoveFood.Com has named the Southside Diner in Baltimore the best diner in the state.

"Southside Diner may not have the retro flair or elegant décor of some of the other diners on our list; in fact, it’s pretty nondescript from the outside. But that really doesn’t matter when the food is this good," a recent review said. "The menu features classic diner fare – burgers, sandwiches, and ham and eggs – alongside Greek specialties like spanakopita (spinach pie) and gyros. People love the warm, friendly atmosphere, too."

Breakfast fare includes egg platters, omelettes, classics like eggs benedict, and special offerings such as the Tillman Tower — chipped beef over toast topped with two over easy eggs and served with home fries — or the After Workout Breakfast, which consists of six egg whites served with your choice of meat, a side of oatmeal and toast.

The diner offers kid-size portions of silver-dollar pancakes, with or without chocolate chips.
